Au Train River - 5 miles south of Au Train - 10 miles.  Easy day trip.  Put in at U. S. Forest Service campground on the southeast side of Au Train Lake.  Lake is hazardous in strong winds.  Enter river at northeast corner of lake.  Slow current.  Two access points.  Takeout at Lake Superior

Big Island Lake Canoeing Area - Steuben - distances vary.  Chain of nine lakes and eight connecting portage trails in the Hiawatha National Forest.  Limited lake access for motorized vehicles.  Rustic camping.

Brule River - 5 miles south of Caspian - 36 miles.  For experienced canoeists.  Put-in at M-189 bridge on Wisconsin border.  Rocky rapids.  Portages.  Numerous access points.  Takeout at Brule Island Dam

Carp River - 8 miles northwest of Moran - 25 miles.  Suitable for beginners.  Put-in at U. S. Forest Service 3458. Rustic camping along river.  Takeout at Lake Huron.

Moran

Cisco Chain - 13 miles west of Watersmeet - 13 miles.  15 interconnected lakes.  Power boats can produce large wakes.  No camping.

Escanaba River - Gwinn - 48 miles.  For experienced canoeists.  Put-in at M-35 in Gwinn.  Rapids.  Portage.  Camping on state forest land.  Takeout on County Road 420 north of Escanaba.  Extremely low water in summer.

Fox River - 12 miles northwest of Seney - 20 miles.  Put-in at Wagner Dan.  State forest campground midway.  Takeout at Seney.

Indian River - 6 miles west of Steuben - 35 miles.  Put-in at U.S. Forest Service Widewaters Campground.  Fallen logs present hazards for for novice canoeists.  Indian Lake dangerous in strong winds.  Takeout at Palms Book State Park.  Campgrounds.  Nurmerous access points.

Manistique River - 1 mile south of Germfask - 65 miles.  Put-in at state roadside park on M-77.  Two state forest campgrounds.  Mosquitoes are numerous in late spring.  Takeout at Manistique.

Michigamme River - Republic - 50 miles.  Put-in at Republic Dan.  Rapids hazardous for novices.  Dam portages.  Long stretches of backwater.  Takeout at Peavey Dam.

Republic

Ontonagon River - Ewen - 28 miles.  Challenging trip, only for experienced canoeists.  Put-in at M-28.  Rapids.  Portages. Takeout at Victoria Dam.

Potagannssing River - Drummond Island - distances vary.  Chain of four lakes.  Put in at dan near Morton Bay Forest Campground.

Presque Isle River - Tula - 18 miles.  For experts only.  Put-in at M-28.  Numerous rapids, falls and portages.  Whitewater.  Flows into Lake Superior in the Porcupine Mountains State Park.

Sturgeon River - 15 miles north of Nahma - 22 miles.  Put-in on County Road 442, four miles west of US-13.  Slow meandering current.  Possible portage around 10 Miles Rapids and logjams.  Takeout at Nahma on Lake Michigan.  Camping midway.  Best season April-June

Sylvania Recreation Area - Watersmeet - distances vary.  Canoe portage trail system connecting 20 lakes. 29 wilderness campgrounds.

Tahquamenon River - McMillan - 63 miles.  Put-in off County Road 415 north of McMillan.  No camping along first 15 miles through willow swamp.  Portages around upper and lower falls.  Flows into Lake Superio.  Avaoid during blackfly season.

Two Hearted River - 23 miles north of Newberry - 23 miles.  Designated Wilderness River.  Put-in at High Bridge Forest Campground on County Road 407.  Portage around fallen trees.  Several rustic campgrounds and access points.  Takeout at Lake Superior.

Newberry

Whitefish River, East Branch - 28 miles north of Rapid River - 28 miles.  Put-in on U. S. Forest Service 2236.  Current varies from quick to slow.  No intermediate public access points.  Takeout at Rapid River on Lake Michigan.
